Did you know The PLAZA Theatre has been owned and operated by one family for more than eight decades? According to David Diamond, a leading expert on Canadian movie theatre history, The PLAZA Theatre is the only theatre continuously owned by one family in Canada, and perhaps North America. Grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren of the original owners, Lily and Lewis Durham, are working in a variety of roles in The PLAZA.
Currently owned and operated by Herb & Leslie Goldstein, The PLAZA Theatre has recently undergone a 10 month facelift, to preserve the history of the auditorium, while upgrading to the newest, top of the line audio & visual equipment. The new in-house sound system not only enhances to movie going experience, but it expands the usuability to include guest speaking engagements and other live performances - like concerts!
And can we talk about popcorn? Herb has perfected his secret recipe, which CBC's Dan Reynish has been quoted on air boasting 'The best popcorn in Saskatchewan is at The PLAZA Theatre in Shaunavon.'
